A custom-built training and certification platform to scale your franchise operations

The Opportunity

3 Pepper Burrito Co. is entering a critical growth phase — scaling from 8 locations to 20–30 through franchise expansion. The training infrastructure that got you here won't carry you there. Every new location multiplies the cost of inconsistency, and every SaaS subscription compounds with growth.

This proposal outlines a custom-built training and certification platform that you own outright — purpose-built for your operations, your content, and your franchise model. No per-location fees. No vendor lock-in. One investment that pays for itself.

Why Now

Current challenges driving the need for a centralized training system

Inconsistent Training

  • No centralized training system — onboarding varies by location and manager
  • Employee handbook sign-off handled through payroll provider — nobody reads it
  • Physical prep guide binders are outdated, hard to update, and unsearchable
  • LTO rollouts require retraining every employee with no structured delivery system

Franchise Scaling Gap

  • Aggressive growth plan: 8 locations today, targeting 20–30 within 2–3 years
  • No repeatable onboarding system for new franchisees to deploy independently
  • Franchise support specialist handling weekly calls without standardized materials
  • Every existing employee needs to go through the system to establish a universal baseline

SaaS Cost Trajectory

  • Opus Training quoted at ~$80/month per location — scales linearly with growth
  • TalentLMS at 200+ users runs $3,600–$6,000+/year and grows with headcount
  • At 30 locations, SaaS fees project to $28,800+/year with Opus alone
  • 5-year SaaS projection at growth trajectory: $90K–$120K in subscription fees

Ownership & Control

  • Proprietary prep guide content must remain confidential and access-controlled
  • Different franchisees use different payroll providers — no single integration point
  • Need platform portability: if vendor relationship ends, client keeps the codebase
  • Want to own the platform, not rent it — no per-location fees passed to franchisees

WBX Creative builds custom operational tools for growing businesses — platforms that companies own outright, with no recurring vendor fees or lock-in. Our approach prioritizes portability, simplicity, and building exactly what the business needs without the bloat of off-the-shelf solutions.

Relevant capabilities for this engagement:

  • Custom web application development (React, Next.js, PostgreSQL)
  • Multi-tenant architecture with role-based access control
  • Content management and structured training delivery systems
  • Bilingual platform development (English/Spanish)
  • Ongoing platform management and iterative feature delivery

This platform will be built with the same modern stack and methodology used across all WBX Creative custom builds — designed to last, built to scale.

The math:Year 1 is your biggest investment. By year 2, you're paying less than Opus. By year 3 with 20+ locations, you're saving $10K+/year and growing. At 30 locations, Opus costs $2,400/month vs. your $400/month — that's a 6x difference.

~$33,000

Then ~$400/month ongoing. Full platform ownership from day one. No per-location fees. No per-user fees. Scales with your franchise at zero marginal cost.
